Physiological lipids in a 3:1:1 molar ratio reconstruct compromised skin barriers and stop water loss.
Dispensed from our Portland apothecary counter at 224 Southwest 1st Avenue. Formulated with biomimetic ceramides NP, AP, and EOP, plant sterol cholesterol, and essential fatty acids to seal micro-fissures in damaged stratum corneum.
Why standard moisturizers fail barrier repair and why 3:1:1 succeeds
Most commercial moisturizers rely on high percentages of mineral oil or simple glycerin to create a temporary moisture barrier on top of the skin. While that occlusive film relieves tightness for an hour, it does nothing to repair the underlying intercellular lipid bilayer. The moment the surface cream washes away, trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) spikes again, accompanied by stinging, tight flaking, and redness.
Natural stratum corneum lipids require three physiological components in an equimolar ratio: three parts ceramides to one part cholesterol and one part free fatty acids. If any single component is omitted, cellular recovery stalls. Our Ceramide Complex 3:1:1 delivers this exact biochemical matrix, fusing into the lipid lamellae between corneocytes to restore natural moisture retention capacity.

Active compound breakdown and lipid architecture
- Ceramides NP, AP & EOP Bio-fermented, skin-identical sphingolipids. Ceramide NP reinforces the water-holding capacity of the upper epidermis, AP supports cell membrane flexibility, and EOP locks the lamellar sheet together.
- Pure Botanical Cholesterol Non-animal derived sterol fraction that fits between ceramide hydrophobic tails, preventing crystallization and maintaining fluid membrane dynamics.
- High-Linoleic Fatty Acids Omega-6 essential fatty acids derived from safflower seeds, specifically chosen to replenish deficient sebum without triggering follicular comedones.
- Phytosphingosine & Allantoin Natural lipid precursor with inherent antimicrobial benefits against cutibacterium acnes, paired with allantoin for immediate calming of burning sensations.
Mimics the architectural lattice of human skin lipids under polarizing light.
Studio dispensing methodology and routine sequence
Barrier rehabilitation requires removing irritants while restoring lipid volume. At our Portland studio, Irina Petrova prescribes this cream through a disciplined sequence:
- Pre-Evaluation Audit: We suspend all direct acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic), strong retinoids, and mechanical facial cleansing brushes for a minimum of 14 days.
- Lamellar Application: Warm a pea-sized portion between fingertips to melt the lipid crystals. Press gently across face and neck after applying a water-based hydrator such as our Hyaluronic Acid & B5 Serum.
- Maintenance & Transition: Once morning stinging disappears and baseline TEWL returns to normal levels (<10 g/m²/h), active daytime serums like our 15% L-Ascorbic Acid can be carefully reintroduced.
Apply to damp skin directly after serum hydration.
Who this formulation is not for
While this cream is non-comedogenic, it is formulated specifically for barrier-compromised, dry, irritated, or post-procedure skin. If your skin is extremely oily, prone to active cystic congestion in humid summer weather, or does not experience moisture tightness, this rich lipid profile may feel too occlusive.
For oily or acne-prone complexions seeking lightweight moisture without lipids, we recommend our Centella Asiatica Squalane Soothing Cream Gel instead. We also advise against applying this cream over active open abrasions or weeping dermatitis lesions without physician oversight.
Choose our lightweight squalane gel for oil-prone barrier maintenance.
